Tour Info:
Dates: October 3-10, 2027
Itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival
Welcome to Iceland! You are met at Keflavík airport by your private driver. Your route leads from Keflavík across the interesting ancient lava fields of Reykjanes Peninsula. On the way from the airport, we have included a stop at the Blue Lagoon. Stop at the Blue Lagoon for approx 2-2.5 hours and then continue on around the Reykjanes Peninsula before ending at the hotel for check in.
Check-in to your hotel in Reykjavík. The rest of the day is open for your own activities.
Please note that check-in at most hotels starts between 14:00 and 16:00 (2:00pm and 4:00pm).
Accommodation with breakfast: Kea Hotel Skuggi Standard Rooms
Day 2 - Reykjavik - Reykholt - Borgarnes (B, D)
Breakfast at your hotel. Meet your private driver-guide in the hotel lobby and depart from Reykjavík. Travel northwest via an undersea tunnel through Hvalfjörður (Whale Bay).
Head onwards to Borgarfjörður, an area rich in natural wonders and Viking history. The first stop will be in Borgarnes at the Settlement Center. Here guests can choose between two exhibits at the musuem. Discover more Icelandic history at Reykholt, which holds an important role as the home of renowned medieval chieftain and Icelandic Saga writer, Snorri Sturluson. View the powerfully churning waters of Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Your day ends with a scenic visit to a duo of unique waterfalls at Hraunfoss and Barnafoss. Lunch at leisure. Dinner included at the hotel.
Accommodation with breakfast: Hotel Vesturland Standard Rooms
Day 3 - Snæfellsnes Peninsula - Borgarnes (B, D)
After breakfast, head along the rugged coastline of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Known as “Iceland in a Nutshell,” this area will show you an astonishing variety of natural landscapes. Enjoy views of moss blanketed lava fields, pebbled beaches, imposing cliffs and the iconic Snaefellsjökull glacier-volcano (last eruption: 250 AD). You’ll travel through secluded fishing villages like Grundarfjörður, with its landmark Kirkjufell Mountain, and Hellnar with a year-round population of less than ten residents. The picturesque harbor village of Arnarstapi gives you the opportunity to walk among columnar basalt rock formations and cliffs swarming with colonies of seabirds. Throughout the day, savor the remote tranquility of Snaefelljökull National Park.
We have added a caving experience at Vatnshellir Cave which is an 8000 year old lava tube. Lunch is at leisure today. Dinner included at the hotel.
Accommodation with breakfast: Hotel Vesturland Standard Rooms
Day 4 - The Golden Circle (B, L, D)
Breakfast at your hotel. Iceland’s Golden Circle showcases a trio of celebrated natural attractions, including the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal fields of Geysir Hot Spring Area, alive with boiling mud pits, steam vents, and exploding geysers. The centerpiece is Þingvellir National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), where Viking settlers established an annual assembly in AD 930 which has become the world’s oldest ongoing parliament. Þingvellir is also a geological masterpiece, as it marks the visible site of the mid-Atlantic Ridge where the North American and Eurasian continental plates meet. During the day, you’ll visit Fríðheimar greenhouse and horse breeding farm for an interesting demonstration about how Icelandic farmers use geothermal water for producing vegetables. You’ll also meet some of the farm’s friendly Icelandic horses. Tomato soup lunch and fresh baked bread is included here today.
After an amazing journey, the road takes you to the southern region of Iceland for your overnight stay. Dinner included at the hotel.
Accommodation with breakfast: Stracta Hotel Hella Standard Rooms
Day 5 - South Coast - Höfn (B, D)
Breakfast at your hotel. Travel along the south coast, one of Iceland’s main farming areas. View the magnificent waterfall Skógarfoss, site of hidden treasure. Nearby is Skógar Folk Museum with a collection of mementos from this region’s past housed in beautifully preserved old turf-roofed buildings. Make a stop in Vík village where you can admire stunning views of a black sand beach and the black basalt columns of Reynisdrangar. Lunch is at leisure. We'll make at stop at Hjörleifshöfði or Gígjagjá, at what they call Yoda's Cave. The cave is easy to access, with a short walk from the nearby parking area and no need for advanced hiking experience. We end the day in the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Dinner included at hotel.
Accommodation with breakfast: Magma Hotel Standard Rooms
Day 6 - Vatnajökull National Park (B, D)
Breakfast at your accommodation. Your hotel is perfectly situated to make a full day of exploring glacial wonders in Vatnajökull National Park, Western Europe’s largest national park. Visit the park’s majestic Skaftafell area, which is located between two glaciers and offers several hiking trails where you can enjoy great views of glaciers. Continue to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where blue, white, turquoise and black-streaked icebergs shift and dance. It is a special place for photographers who enjoy the challenge of catching the icebergs in just the right light conditions. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for seals resting amid the glaciers. You have the option to take a boat tour on the glacier lagoon at extra cost. The nearby Diamond Beach has become popular, especially for social media photographers. Icebergs from the Glacier Lagoon wash up on the beach here. The contrast of crystalline ice against black sand is striking. After a day of glacial wonders, head back to the hotel this evening for dinner. Lunch is at leisure.
Accommodation with breakfast: Magma Hotel Standard Rooms
Day 7 - South Coast - Reykjavík (B)
Breakfast at your hotel. Drive along the scenic south coast back to Iceland’s capital city. En route, you’ll visit Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall that you can walk behind, depending on trail conditions. You will also be passing through the landscape of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, famous for its 2010 eruption. Return to Reykjavík in the late afternoon/early evening. Lunch and dinner at leisure.
Accommodation with breakfast: Kea Hotel Skuggi Standard Rooms
